I love any chance I can get to entertain at our house mainly so I can decorate! I love coming up with a concept and color palette to work with. I generally only decorate for the kids birthdays or if we’re hosting something. This year we are lucky to host our annual Friendsgiving with our group of close friends. So game on!
Whenever I decorate for a party, I keep it simple and cost effective. I generally repurpose items around the house or reuse items from other parties. For example, I have votive holders from our wedding still (six years ago), mason jars for a bunch of different showers, and so one. Mason jars are the best because you can use them to hold silverware, flowers or even Twizzlers for a candy bar. Not saying I do not buy anything at all, I will usually purchase a few items.
The main area I’m concentrating on is our dining area, where we will be taking down some yummy food! I’ll still put a few flowers out around the house but very limited. A secret, get all your flowers at Trader Joes! They always have the best selection and great prices!
For our dining room table, I did not want to cover it with a table cloth so instead, I used a black and white buffalo check blanket scarf that I had in the closet. Yes, a scarf! If it gets dirty, I’ll wash it. On top of the blanket scarf, I kept it simple with some fresh eucalyptus from Trader Joes as well as some flowers. I also used the votive holders from our wedding I had stored in the basement along with a wood charger.
I didn’t want to go overboard on loading the table up with stuff as we’d have to remove it all to put the food on the table. With this setup, I can simple place all the bowls and platters on top of the blanket scarf and eucalyptus and move around the candles as needed.
As for the napkins, I had some cloth ones I had purchased a few years ago. These are always great to have on hand. I do not own any napkin rings, I generally just use some ribbon and then add a fresh flower to it or in this case a sprig of fresh eucalyptus.
For our bar cart, I pulled out our glasses and some of our favorite alcohol. I also added some eucalyptus to add some fall color. I recently found a wood vase on clearance at Target and decided to use it as a wine bottle holder. Like I said, I like to find things that I can repurpose!
The only items I bought for the dining room were the pillows on the chair that I found on clearance at Hobby Lobby, the flowers and the ribbon!
Hope these ideas help you when decorating for Thanksgiving or any other party!
