I’m always switching up products because well, why not! It’s fun to try different products and different techniques especially with aging skin. I also met with a few make up artist and watched a lot of YouTube videos for “mature skin” aka old :P. I know I know, we are not old but our skin is not that of a 20 year olds. If only I knew what I know now and appreciated my 20 year old skin!
From my research, the key is a good skin care system. I didn’t ever realize how important taking care of your skin was until a few years ago. Since then I’ve changed this and exploring different products. So stay tuned for that 😉
The next most important thing for skin is water. Lots and lots of water. You get no complaints from me on this one! I love water and drink at least 90 oz a day. I usually add some lemon too. Having water keeps your body hydrated as well as your skin!
Then there are your beauty products to help even, smooth and make you look like you have slept 10 hours! At the moment, these are the products that I’m loving and in the order I use them.
BECCA – Anti-Fatigue Under Eye Primer…
The skin under your eye is very delicate and sensitive, especially as you age like a fine wine. Keeping your eye hydrated is keep to fighting wrinkles also from makeup setting into those creases. I don’t use this as a primer, I use this to wake my eyes up in the morning. I have naturally puffy eyes and in the morning, watch out! This really wakes my eyes up and helps with that puffiness. I feel like it does a good job of helping blur out some of those fine lines. It has green tea and caffeine it, need I say more 🙂
Clinique – Foundation Buff Brush…
I use this brush to apply foundations. I like it because it’s round and I feel it’s dummy proof ha! I also like it because it’s antibacterial. When talking to different makeup artists, they said with this brush you can go in a circular motion. Then for those areas where you need a little more coverage, for me that’s my red areas, go over with a little more foundation and tap it in. This ‘bakes’ it in a little more, basically layering it. It really has made a HUGE difference of how my foundation looks. No more splotchy areas.
I ask about the beauty blender and about primers. Basically what I got back is save your money on the primers. If you have a good skin care system, then the make up adhere’s just as well as a primer. As for the beauty blender, I got mixed reviews. I think this is a personal preference. I personally thing this brush does a much better job and eats up less product.
Lancôme – Skin Feels Good Hydrating Skin Tint…
I absolutely love this stuff! The name says it all. I’m one of those people who has to have some type of makeup on before going to the gym. My face is naturally dry and splotchy red so I feel a little more comfortable with something on. I do add my foundation over this and it doesn’t feel heavy at all. This does a great job of keeping my face hydrated all day.
On the weekends, I only use this and a little bit of powder. I feel like it gives me just enough coverage. Keep in mind, it’s not a full coverage which is why I still use foundation during the week.
Lancôme – Rénergie Lift Anti-Wrinkle Lifting Foundation…
This foundation has it all! I used a different foundation and felt like it wasn’t enough coverage and I also felt it wasn’t setting into my skin very well. Foundations can be tricky, not only from finding one that matches your skin type but also the battle between oil based and water based. Depending on your skin care products and what you put on your face before your foundation, you could have incompatible products. You really want to keep to water to water and oil to oil.
They say this foundation is not a full coverage but I think it does a really good job especially covering my red areas. At first I thought it was a little heavy but I learned a little goes a long way. Plus it’s anti-wrinkle and lifting, can’t get better than that!
Make sure to not apply the foundation to under your eyes! I have something else for that 🙂
FENTY BEAUTY – Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer…
Now I said that I do not use and you really don’t need a primer but your under eye skin, especially mature skin, you need something a little more. This product really does a great job of prepping the skin and making sure you do not have alligator skin after you put your concealer and/or powder.
I use a tiny drop and touch both ring fingers together to get a little product. I think gently tap the product under my eyes and let it dry. Then onto the next step!
Charlotte Tilbury – Magic Away Concealer…
Finding a good concealer is hard to find, especially for aging skin. Some are too think and some are too thin. I feel like this has a really smooth texture and goes on really nice. It does have it’s own applicator which is really nice but I don’t actually use it. I give a couple twist, tap the product applicator under my eye then I use my fingers.
Using your fingers is the key to making sure your product doesn’t set into those lines and make you look older than you really are. The heat from your finger warms up the concealer as you are tapping it along our under eye, giving you a nice smooth finish. You can use a small concealer brush as well but your finger really gives you the best look.
Also, don’t use a lot of concealer, this is what gets you in trouble!
FENTY BEAUTY – Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder…
After the concealer has set I like to add a setting powder to really give it a smooth look and keep it lasting all day. The only time I use a beauty blender is to set my under eye. The best one I have found is HERE. Make sure to wet your beauty blender and then use a towel to get any excess liquid. Add a little of the setting powder and lightly tap it under your eyes!
Charlotte Tilbury – Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder…
Now that the eyes are all done, back to the face. I use this finishing powder down my t-zone and may red areas. I feel it gives a nice smooth, flawless appearance to your skin. It’s a very light powder and really adheres to your skin. I use this only during the week or if I’m going out since it’s a little on the pricey side. I do feel a little goes a really long way.
Clinique – Almost Powder Makeup…
I have to admit, when the makeup artist brought me this I wasn’t excited. I’ve had my battles with Clinique over my early years but I’m trying to stay open minded. Glad I did because I really like this powder. Now, I only use this one on the weekends. I feel like it’s a little too much if I wear it with my foundation. Really because I feel it is a little more full coverage and I don’t wear my foundation on the weekends unless we are going out. That’s what I love about this, it’s great to toss on during the weekends or when you don’t want to wear a lot of makeup.
Lancôme – Cils Booster XL Vitamin-Infused Mascara Primer…
I wait until the end to apply my mascara but before I do, I apply this lash primer. This has been a game changer for my lashes. Not only does it help keep my lashes healthy but it really makes them appear full and long! This is my ride or die primer and it probably always will be. If they ever discontinue this I will make sure to stock up so I never run out!
Lancôme – Monsieur Big Mascara…
This mascara is just amazing! It lasts all day and on someone who is always touching their face and lashes. I feel this doesn’t flake off and give you raccoon eyes. I first apply this to the tops and tips of my lashes then the entire lash. This with the primer is a match made in heaven!
There are a few products here and there that I use but at the moment this is what I’m loving! Let us know if you have tried any of these or if you have other products we should try!
