I read an article on Fox Business last fall that stated nearly 50% of women stress out about repeating outfits at work! WOW, that seems like a lot to me and definitely not something I would like to stress out about. Would I like to be able to wear something different EVERY day to work? Sure, who wouldn’t. But, let’s be honest we all can be part of the Kardashian family. I suppose if I even had the funds to do that…I may not even have to work, HA!
So this got me thinking, what could help these women to not feel so stressed or make their wardrobe seem that it is not repeating itself daily? My answer (maybe not everyone’s) is to invest in a capsule wardrobe. Those are the classic items that make up a closet that don’t go in and out of fashion. These are the items you spend the money on, because you want them to last longer.
For the purpose of this blog we are going to be talking about business work wear. That is my Monday through Friday, so I want to share what items make up my capsule wardrobe.
Pencil Skirt…
Investing in a great pencil skirt is a must. They are classic and timeless, that will go a long way. These never go out of style and you can easily pair it with a trendy top or shoe. You can even change it up and wear it for a date night!
Blazer…
Some say to just invest in a black blazer. I’d say a black, white and beige/tan. My favorite blazers from J.Crew and J.Crew Factory are the best and you don’t have to dry clean them.
Pants…
Black pants are a staple for work life. I do love my black pants to be skinny, but it’s also nice to have a wide leg and a relaxed pair on hand.
White Button Up…
Now this is a capsule must, but I know that it may need to be replaced more often than your black items due to kids, food and sweat, ha. This is also another item that you can wear with jeans for a casual look.
White Blouse Top/Tank…
There is nothing better than a classy white blouse or tank. So versatile and gets a lot of use in my closet.
Cardigan…
Always good to have some of these in your closet. Especially if you have a cold office and don’t want to wear a blazer for work. I need to invest in some of these this fall.
Pumps…
Invest in a pair of black and nude pumps. Make sure they are comfortable!
Flats…
For those days you have a lot of walking or just maybe want to give your feet a break, invest in some good flats. Black is probably the best if you are just getting one and maybe more of an expensive one.
Boots/Booties…
For fall and winter, you’ll want to have some good booties or booties. Go with a smooth leather vs. suede. I love suede so much, but they just don’t hold up well for an everyday work shoe.
Little Black Work Dress…
The good ole LBD! You have to have a couple of these in your closest.
Along with making your life easier, another great reason to establish your capsule wardrobe is to help you find your fit and style. That makes shopping so much easier and when your favorite capsule black pants go on sale in other colors, it’s easy to scoop those up.
Once you get your foundation it’s time to take a look at the season’s fashion trends (prints, patterns, colors, layers etc). These are the items that I like to find at Target, Nordstrom Rack or I will get on sale. You don’t want to invest in something that is on trend this fall and next fall is “so last year” ha. However, if it is leopard print…buy it. I don’t think that is going away anytime soon. And if it does, it will always have a home in my closet. Here’s a look at Patone’s top fall colors for 2019.
Fun accessories and shoes are always a great way to make your outfit look different. It’s amazing how a bright colored shoe will change the look your instantly. So ladies, don’t stress over wearing that same outfit again and again. Most of us don’t even know, ha.
Hope this has been helpful to get your closet organized with capsule pieces or what you are missing, it’s sure helped me. So excited to get shopping and find my fall trends to add to mine.
