Almost everyday Pepin asks for a Stay Home Day which means the weekend! We all love the weekends! We love to do fun things outside the house but our favorite is staying home!
This past Sunday was a glimpse of fall. It was rainy, cooler temps, football started and the perfect weekend to stay home! Dana was working late all week and even worked all this weekend so I needed to get creative with the kids. It’s also not always feasible to go to all the events especially with a family of four, it can get a little pricey!
We usually pick one day out of the weekend that we stay home minus something that is planned like a birthday or swim lessons ha! Since the kids are in school all week, they generally want to be at home and play with their toys. It’s also a good time to do a craft with the kids and even involve them in cooking.
One recent craft the kids have been loving are beads! They love making shapes, bracelets, necklaces or whatever they imagine. Since the girls are different ages the activity has to be someone easy for the two year old. So I was at the craft store looking around and found a big container of beads (the bigger kind)! I scooped them up as well as some string and some pipe cleaners. I figured the pipe cleaners would be easier for the little one since they are not flimsy and are wider than a string.
The girls played with beads for almost an hour which is huge, making various necklaces, bracelets and whatever their imagination brought to life. They also had a lot of fun picking up all the beads I spilled with the container slipped out of my hands and went everywhere ha!
Another fun thing the kids love to do is cook! Every time I’m in the kitchen cooking they are always asking questions about what I’m doing and if they can help. Since it’s usually a rush to get dinner on the table, it’s not always feasible to have them help so the weekends I try to involved them. Usually making pancakes, scrambling eggs or making a treat.
To keep things simple we made one of my favorite cookies, a two ingredient pumpkin cookie. It’s perfect for fall and of course kicking off football season! The nice thing with this cookie is that you are not running around for ingredients and you avoid the mass cleanup! The kids were super excited and they had so much fun helping! Oh and or course eating the finished product!
Ingredients…
- 1 Box Spice Cake Mix
- 1 15oz Can Pumpkin Puree (I use organic, it tastes so much better and it’s stronger)

Directions…
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
- Mix cake mix and the pumpkin together
- Fold in chips if you are adding them
- Use a cookie scoop on a greased cookie sheet – I used 1/8 measuring cup
- Bake for 12 minutes
