My husband planned an evening out for me to celebrate my birthday. He knew Mel and I have been researching new places to try so he checkout our blog and read our KC in September post. Thanks for the support babe and smart of him to make planning easy right?!?!
He made a reservation at Novel. However he did not tell me where we were going until we pulled into the parking lot. I was so excited! Novel is located in the Crossroads District in a beautiful old building. I love the character and the uniqueness of the setting.
The inside is just as beautiful and full of character. We got there a little early to be able sit at the bar and enjoy a cocktail first. It’s a beautiful bar with this really cool mosaic tile of a fox and roses on white subway tile. The cocktail menu is one of kind with so many good options. I love a cocktail menu that really can’t be recreated by someone else. I mean I’d love to make it at my own home, but I get it ha. I had the Tea Thyme which was made with vodka, lemon, honey, lavender, thyme, sparkling wine and roobias berry tea. Wow was I in for a treat. It was so delicious and served in a vintage tea cup. Seth got the old fashioned which was made very well. Some places really don’t know how to make a good one.
After our drinks we sat down to get some food. Everything on the menu looked great. There is really something for everyone. For an appetizer we ordered the Gourgeres which was smoked salmon, artichoke, spinach and pepper jack in a puff pastry. Very unique flavoring. Had that savory taste with a little sweet.
For the main course I went with Pekin Duck Breast and Seth went with the Duroc Pork Chop. We also got a side of the Creamy Whipped Potatoes. WOW! Everything was so good and cooked perfect. I ate ALL of my food. The peaches with the duck was a great combo and the miso aioli was to die for. I of course had to have a bit of Seth’s pork which was also very good. I am hungry again just writing this.
I was super full, but couldn’t pass on at least looking at the dessert menu. Multiple things looked delicious but we ended up going with the Coconut Gooey Butter Cake. I am a sucker for gooey butter cake and it had coconut sooooo no brainer here. It of course was delicious. It was also very light so I wasn’t sick full by the time we left ha.
If you have not been to Novel yet you really need to try it. Be sure to make reservations. It was packed in there and no surprise why. We cannot wait to go back again. Thank you to Novel and their staff for making my birthday celebration special and delicious!!
