I’ve been traveling for work quite a bit this year, so I’ve had a lot of windshield time on my hands. I had never been one to listen to a Podcast until my good friend kept telling me how much better it made her drives and that I really needed to listen to Dr. Death.
So I pulled the trigger and downloaded Dr. Death. My road life was forever changed. I am now obsessed with podcasts and am always looking for the next one. I really enjoy true crime podcasts. Probably because I have a criminal justice background, but they are always so fascinating.
Here are a list of my favorites (in no particular order) to add to your holiday travel this season or just your commute to work…
I work in the medical field, so this one was fascinating and insane all at the same time. Dr. Death is a true story about a neurosurgeon in Texas who had patients come forward with serious medical issues after surgery. I don’t want to spoil anything, but it is truly an unbelievable story.
Successful woman meets a handsome man that seems to have it all. However her family is very suspicious of him and his motives. A lot of you have possibly heard the story of John Meehan and the Newell family. Whether you have or haven’t this podcast is so good. I found myself multiple times yelling at my radio. Another true story that seems too crazy to be true.
This podcast is about the disappearance of Adea Shabani, an aspiring actress in LA. What was so good about this podcast is it takes you through the real time of what is happening. You felt like you were there, trying to help solve this case.
22 Hours: An American Nightmare
This one is a little harder to listen to, because it does involve a child. A well to do family in DC is held hostage in their home for nearly 24 hours. This podcast takes you through what this family possibly endured during this time and the trial for the suspected killer.
Up and Vanished: Season 1
This is the story about the disappearance of Tara Grinstead. She was a teacher and former beauty queen in Ocilla, Georgia. This Podcast was made to help find out who killed Tara. Payne Lindsey does an excellent job with this one.
Serial: Season 1
High-school senior Hae Min Lee disappears one day after school in Baltimore County, Maryland and a month later, her body was found in a city park. Her boyfriend Adnan Syed was arrested for the crime and was sentenced to life in prison. Adnan has maintained his innocence. Sarah Koenig takes your through this story and tries to uncover inconsistencies with his trial and potential cover-ups. Really great podcast.
A marriage ended and a spouse is murdered. The question is who did it and why?
What starts out as a man asking someone to investigate a murder that happened in his small town, turns into an incredible story of another man’s life. This one was a very unexpected podcast for me. What you believe it to be in the beginning turns out to be a totally different story, but a great one!
On February 26, 2014, Christian Andreacchio was found dead in his upstairs bathroom from a single gunshot wound to the head. After only a 45-minute investigation, local police ruled his death a suicide. There was multiple evidence to say that it could have been a homicide. His family will not rest until they find out the true story as to what happened to Christian.
This is the story of the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos. It’s such a bizarre story of how the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire loses it all in the blink of an eye. The technology that was to revolutionize healthcare, seems to become a large scam.
Hope you enjoy these picks as much as I did. I will continue to add to this list as I find more good ones. Happy travel time. You will be to your destination in no time when you are listening to these.
