December is always a busy month with holiday decorating, baking, parties and oh yes, shopping. Outside of all that fun, we found some really fun events and things happening around KC this month. We also included a holiday lights section!
Events…
Winter Wonder Week – Dec 14th 3pm – 7pm
Downtown Overland Park is putting on this amazing event that includes a cookie bake-off, pictures with Santa, sleigh rides, music and a luminary walk! I have a feeling the kids would love everything about this!
Reindeer Games and Selfies with Santa – Dec 14th 11am – 1pm
Need to wear out the kids before nap, take them to the Lenexa Rec Center for snowball fights, homemade ornaments, cookie decorating and oh, a picture with Santa! They’ll have lots of other fun things for the kids to do!
Restaurant and Bars…
Miracle on the Plaza and Rockhill
This is a holiday pop up restaurant on the Plaza and at Rockhill. This pop up is decked out with all things Christmas. They even have holiday themed cocktails and food. You can also buy the fun holiday themed drinkware.
Grab your Hawaiian shirt and head to the back room at the Julep for this fun popup! Lots of fun fruity and fun beverages!
This is one of my favorites. It’s not your normal frozen pot pies, you know the one you grew up eating. They have amazing specials and I haven’t had anything I didn’t love! It’s a perfect warm comfort food for these winter months.
Another favorite is Rye! We have not been to the new location on the Plaza but I’m sure it’s just as amazing. One of my go to favorites is their Chicken and Dumplings. And don’t forget a slice of pie. They have the BEST pies! We always get a slice of Lemon Meringue pie no matter how full we are!
Activities…
A Charlie Brown Christmas Play
Take the family to enjoy Charlie Brown’s Christmas play. Charlie Brown has always been a family favorite and love that they took the animated classic and turned it into a play. They have a jazz trio playing the music, how fun!
There is always something magical about the Nutcracker and we love watching it every year. Start a new tradition by dressing up and seeing this amazing ballet performance. They have a family VIP experience with private reception suite before the show and at intermission. Free wine, kids drinks, holiday treats and hands-on activities. Costumed characters from the show will make a special VIP-only appearance at intermission!

If you need an excuse to go shopping, head over to Park Place to find Santa while you’re picking up gifts. Santa will be walking around Park Place waiting to get a picture of you and the kids!
