How is it January? And how is it 2020?!?! So crazy, but always fun to enter a new year. 2019 was a great year for our blog and I cannot wait to see what 202 holds for us. Starting a new month, means finding some fun things to do in KC.
I’m sure a lot of you are partied out and maybe looking for a little break, but if you are not here are some fun things going on and some new things to try. Instead of restaurants this month, I am going to highlight some local coffee shops to try.
Here we go…
Events…
KC Restaurant Week – January 10th – 19th
We LOVE restaurant week. It’s such a great time to visit some of your favorites, try new ones or hit those more expensive restaurants. With lunches at $15 and multiple course dinners for $35, this is the time to go out and eat. Today I will be mapping my plan of attack on which ones I want to try. Cannot wait. You won’t want to miss out on this! We will keep you updated on the places we decide to go.
Kansas City Royals Fan Fest – January 24th – 25th
Are you a Royals fan? Then you don’t want to miss out on this experience. This event is located at Bartle Hall. Come meet current and former Royals players. Visit different vendor booths and entertainment throughout the day. Don’t forget to bring you bats, balls and jersey for signatures.
Party Arty – February 1st
Ok, I know this is February however I don’t want you to miss out in case I don’t get the February post out in time. This is such a fun event. My friend and I went last year and had the best time. This years theme is Night of the Shining Sun, inspired by the featured exhibition Queen Nefertari: Eternal Egypt at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. I am so sad to miss this year as we will be out of town. It is encouraged to dress to the theme of the evening. This event helps fund the museum’s education efforts, community outreach initiatives, and free access to more than 500,000 visitors each year.

Coffee Shops…
This has got to be one of our favorites. It is close to our kids school, so it was such a great find. They make the best coffee drinks and they are all so unique. My favorite is the Lavendar Honey Latte and Mel’s is their Pumpkin Spice Latte. They use real pumpkin puree. The have seasonal offerings. Another thing we love to grab when we are they are homemade pop tarts. They are to die for and also come in gluten free. Everyone is so welcoming and it’s a nice cozy environment to visit with friends or get some work done.
I have heard so many great things about this coffee shop, but haven’t had the chance to visit yet. The menu looks great with unique specialty drinks and some fun sounds teas. Can’t wait to try this one out.
I drive past The Filling Station on Johnson Drive multiple times a week. I cannot believe I haven’t stopped to check in out. I always think to myself when I drive by, how cute is that coffee shop? Well, no more wondering because this month I am stopping in. They have 4 convenient locations throughout KC to visit.
Activities…
Looking for a fun free indoor activity with the kids, take them to Kaleidoscope located at Crown Center. This is a great activity for kids to use their creativity and art skills. Kids are able to create those own master pieces using left-over materials from Hallmark. After you finish up there, head over to Fritz’s for lunch a dinner. My son loves getting his meal delivered by a train, choo choo!
Ever want to know how marbles are made? Head on over to Moon Marble in Bonner Springs. Owner Bruce Breslow frequently demonstrates his marble making. During demonstrations, he explains the process of glass working and marble history. Be sure to check the website for demo dates. They also have lots to shop from; toys, marbles, old school toys etc.
Urban Air opened up in Lenexa late December and we will be checking this out soon! This this the ultimate trampoline park with a robes course, wall climbing, roller coaster, and so much more. They even have a parents area with TV’s, so you don’t miss any games. Since our kids are a littler younger, they can still have fun on the trampolines and other activities.
Let us know if you check any of these out! Happy January!
xoxo
