It’s January everyone is hitting the gym and working on their fitness, so we wanted to focus on “healthier drinks”. Most of the drinks we find are generally pretty healthy, nothing to sugary or sweet. Plus, it’s nice to have a nice light weight drink to keep you calm and relaxed while you are crushing those goals aka, getting the kids to bed with only 10 questions instead of 154.
Grapefruit Ginger Fizz
Grapefruit is such a delicious fruit and event better in a cocktail. This cocktail comes from My Life Cookbook and looks so refreshing. It is low carb mainly due to the simple syrup being made with swerve. Swerve is a natural sweetener made up of fruits and starchy root veggies. Also you can use vodka or gin for this cocktail. If you are gluten free, no worries, Tito’s vodka is a great vodka to use. It’s a staple in our house.
Blackberry Ombre Sparkler
I know you might be over the champs from New Years, but this one from Enchanting looks really tasty! It does have sugar but you can always sub it for monk fruit sweetener which is a sweetener made from fruit extracts. We both use monk fruit for a sugar substitute.
131 – Grapefruit Rosemary Cocktail
From the 131 Method plan Mel uses, they have a drink recipe that is made up of fruit which is a great natural sweetener. This drink is also super easy to make!
- 1 grapefruit
- 2oz vodka or gin
- 1 tablespoon fresh pomegranate seeds
- 2 sprigs fresh rosemary, plus additional for garnish
- 3oz Grapefruit-flavored sparkling water, for topping
Freshly squeeze the grapefruit into a shaker. Add the vodka or gin, pomegranate seeds and rosemary. Muddle by twisting down on a muddler a few times.
Add ice and sparkling water. Shake, then strain into an ice-filled glass. Garnish with extra rosemary and pomegranate seeds.
Skinny Cocktail
Here is another drink that doesn’t require much, super easy, but so refreshing. If you are like us, sometimes you just want a simple drink. This is one of our favorite go-to’s when we are out, well besides wine or rosé.
- ¼ lime
- ¼ lemon
- 1.5oz gluten-free vodka
- 6-8oz sparkling water
- Lemon and lime wedges
Mix the ingredients from the lime to sparkling water. Squeeze and top the drink with the lemon and lime wedges.
Wines to Try
Adding a new section to our monthly drink posts. Thought it would be fun to try a new wine each month. We love a good wine and why not try some new ones. One wine I’m looking to try is a French Chardonnay. One in particular is a 2016 Novellum Chardonnay.
Cheers to you and the start of a new year and new decade!
