With everything going on we got a little behind on the cocktail post for April. I mean, we can barely keep up with what day it is let alone the date, ha! Also, we seem to have more happy hours (virtual of course) than even before all this.
This is a weekend favorite and also a football party must. I mean, really any occasion is great for a Bloody Mary. Plus all the garnishes really make this drink fun. From bacon to chicken wings. Although we haven’t done chicken wings but have been tempted. We have done meat straws which was interesting.
- 4 parts Bloody Mary mix…we love Zing Zang
- 1 part Vodka
- 3 dashes Worstershire Sauce
- Juice of half Lime
- Juice of half Lemon
- Light beer (optional)
Add all ingredients to a shaker and shake. Pour over ice and and garnish with your favorite toppings (bacon, olives, peppers, celery). If you want a little carbonation top off with a light beer!
Skinny Cucumber Margarita…
This drink from Half Baked Harvest, it sounds so refreshing and has me dreaming of summer weekends. We both love anything cucumber related! I can’t wait to make this, stay tuned to stories for a demo!
Strawberry Basil Smash…
These was a recent creation! We’ve had really good luck with strawberries now that they are coming into season so why not make a cocktail out of them. This drink is so refreshing and delicious.
- 3 Strawberries
- 4 Basil leaves
- Juice from one lime
- 2 oz vodka
- 4 oz club soda
- Ginger ale
Muddle strawberries, basil leaves, lime juice and vodka. You can use frozen (thawed) strawberries too. After muddling I shake with some ice. Pour into glasses and add the club soda then top with some ginger ale. Give it a nice stir and you’re good to go! You can also add in a few splashes of orange bitters for a little extra flavor.
Here are a few simple mixers that we love mixing it up with, especially if you need a quick cocktail:
- Any flavored sparkling water mixes great with vodka. I usually add in a fresh squeezed lime or any fruit. Right now Bubly Cranberry with fresh lime has been delicious.
- Trader Joes Lemon Elderflower is so good with vodka or gin. I want to try mixing it with Rose
- Ginger ale is a great mixer for burbon if you want a little twist
- We also always have club soda on hand for a simple mix with vokda then add in fresh lemon and lime
My mother-in-law made pineapple infused vodka for our wedding. It was so delicious that we went through that instead of the alcohol we paid for! This does take some time to make well more of the sitting and waiting but it’s well worth it. I pair it with some club soda and a little lime.
- Dole crushed pineapple, 20 oz can
- 1c sugar
- 1/2c water
- 3 c vodka (yeild: 1 liter)
Mix together in a jar (we love these). Let it set for two weeks in a place where kids cannot get it, a closet is a good place. Shake the bottle every few days. Strain the contents and then mix yourself a drink!
What’s your go-to mixer?
